Boomerang carnets® has been in business for more than a decade in the United Kingdom and nearly forty years in the United States and we have seen firsthand how temporary imports/exports transit across borders in different ways depending on whether the departure country is the U.K. or the U.S.
To provide a clearer picture, we ran some numbers on the transit methods carnet customers used in 2025. The results highlight distinct trends and transit preferences in each country. Understanding these patterns helps us focus and target industries that will benefit from ATA Carnet use, saving businesses money and time.
While both countries rely on the same methods of transit - air, land, sea, and rail, there are notable differences in how frequently each is used. Geographic size, infrastructure, and global positioning all play a role in shaping those patterns.

It is fairly apparent that because of the size and geographical location of the United States, air is #1 & #2. Whereas truck transport is #1 in the United Kingdom and #3 in the U.S. Trade Bridge®
Additional 2025 data that has gotten us excited is new U.S. carnet customers were represented in varying frequency from 48 out of 50 states, plus Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico. In the U.K., for January 2026, we were incredibly happy to find that our new U.K. carnet customers were represented from all 9 regions of England, plus Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. 12 out of 12—in one month. A first! What a great way to start the year!
