Oregon: Export Growth and ATA Carnets
Call Boomerang Carnets, Your Carnet Specialists
Oregon ranks among the top U.S. states for global trade. In 2023, the state exported $25.7 billion in manufactured products, supporting an estimated 81,000 jobs. According to the U.S. Commercial Service in Portland, Oregon's top three exports are tech software, semiconductors, and lumber manufacturing. Located in the Pacific Northwest, Oregon is part of the "Silicon Forest," a hub for high-tech companies. Additionally, nearly 50% of the state is covered by forestland, totaling 30 million acres. The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (ustr.gov) reports that computer and electronic products accounted for $8.7 billion of Oregon's total exports in 2023. Other top exports include transportation equipment ($7.0 billion), machinery (excluding electrical) ($3.7 billion), chemicals ($1.5 billion), and plastics and rubber products ($667 million).
Navigating international trade can be challenging, and having the right resources can make all the difference. ATA Carnets help companies of all sizes save money, streamline their export programs, and grow globally.
The ATA Carnet in Global Trade
The ATA Carnet is an internationally accepted customs document for temporarily exported merchandise, goods, or professional equipment. It allows cross border movement of goods import-duty and -tax free into any of the 87+ carnet countries and territories for up to 12 months. The ATA Carnet is known as the Merchandise Passport for boomerang freight®. ATA Carnets can be used to take equipment and gear across international borders for a contracted job, exhibit at an international trade show, or demo a prototype or product. At the end of the 12 months, all the items listed on the carnet return to the country of origin, thus the term boomerang freight.
