Antarctica Via ATA Member

As of June 29, 2007 carnets may be used to travel to Antarctica if the customs jurisdiction immediately prior to entering Antarctica is a member of the ATA Carnet system.

For example, if customs clearance is made through a New Zealand customs check point, the Carnet will be an accepted means of customs clearance.  If, on the other hand, the goods enter via the territorial claim of Argentina, a carnet will not be accepted as Argentina is not part of the ATA Carnet scheme.

Please contact the UK Carnet HelpLine® , 0.808.189.3400, for additional information if you are planning to use a carnet for travel to Antarctica, experience any problems or have questions about this situation.   You may also e-mail us.
