The ATA Carnet is undergoing digital transformation.  The transition from a paper ATA Carnet document to a digital one is ongoing. 

Beginning 1 June, you will be issued a boomerang digital carnet if your travel includes importing into a digital carnet country from the UK (a digital carnet country).  If you are temporarily importing into the EU, Norway, or Switzerland (digital countries) you will be issued a boomerang digital carnet.

Follow these instructions and note important dates to get ready.

• We recommend that between 20 May and 1 June, after the digital carnet testing phase is complete, you download the official ICC/ATA Carnet mobile app to your phone from the Apple app store or Google Play (search “ATA Carnet”) particularly if you are a single carnet user.  If you prefer, or if you manage multiple carnets, you can instead use the desktop version via the ATA Carnet Desktop app.atacarnet.iccwbo.org. 
   
• You will create a profile with a login that can be used for both synchronized applications.  Save the credentials for login to an accessible location.    
   
• Nothing about the application for a carnet will change for the boomerang digital carnet.

Please keep in mind that as of 1 April, we no longer charge VAT on Carnets, making them more affordable than ever.  This means lower upfront costs for our customers.

As always, membership in the Liverpool Chamber of Commerce, our partner since 2015, is NOT required to receive a boomerang digital, or paper, carnet.

For customers utilising our services in the U.K. and the U.S., the Boomerang Benefit applies to boomerang digital carnets.

The ATA Carnet

The ATA Carnet is an internationally accepted customs document for temporarily exported merchandise, goods, or equipment (boomerang freight®) that allows for cross-border movement of those goods import-duty and -tax free in and out of 90 carnet countries and territories for up to a year.  Also known as the Merchandise Passport, the ATA Carnet is a unique international trade tool for accessing foreign markets easily and affordably.  ATA Carnets are used by many sectors, but very often used by Film and TV Production, News and Media Corporations, Music Tours, Construction, Automotive, Auction Houses, Medical Devices, Apparel, Security & Defense, and more. 

Though the digital eATA Carnet will come with a learning curve, it will streamline clearing customs even faster than the current paper document does today.  Clearing customs expediently with your goods at borders with an ATA Carnet is one of its greatest benefits.  Curt E.H.
